San Jose Sharks prospect breaks the code, delivering a dirty hit after the whistle and then refuses to drop the gloves
Hockey is a physical and that should never change. But hockey has rules and a code, that was once followed for a reason. Whenever the play is active players should do everything possible to give their team an advantage. Unfortunately, San Jose Sharks prospect Artem Guryev took things too far.
During a recent Ontario Hockey Leauge game at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena, the Sarnia Sting faced off against the Flint Firebirds. With about a minute left in the third period of a 7-3 Sting win, San Jose Sharks draft pick and Flint Defeceman Artem Guryev cheap shotted Sarnia forward and Toronto Maple Leafs Draft pick, Ty Voit. The hit came against a defenseless Voit who had just scored a goal and wasn't expecting any sort of hit, so he was unable to protect himself.
Guryev was assessed a misconduct on the play and was sent to the showers early as Sting medical staff tended to Voit. It's worth noting Guryev has been suspended four times before in his Ontario Hockey League career for a total of sixteen games and it's likely he will for this as well.
