The Edmonton Oilers nearly signed this NHL veteran to help bolster their depth
Riley Nash has been around the league the last few years, going from Columbus to Winnipeg, Tampa Bay, and ending his waiver travels in Arizona. The veteran center started his career in the Carolina Hurricanes organization in 2011-2012.
Nash recently signed with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers, the current Florida Panther's affiliate club.
Before this happened, however, the Edmonton Oilers were looking at offering Nash a PTO.
Ironically, Nash had been drafted by Edmonton in 2007 before being traded to Carolina, where he would sign his first entry-level contract in 2010.
Nash was with the same group of Columbus Blue Jackets who helped sweep the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2019, a good bottom-six defensive center would've been a great help on an Oilers team lacking good depth.
