During the 1st period of last night's game between the Vancouver Canucks and San Jose Sharks, forward Dakota Joshua and defender Radim Simek tried to drop the gloves. The confrontation occured after Simek delivered a big hit to on Nils Aman in the neutral zone. The hit was not penalized but Joshua saw enough.

While Aman returned to his feet Joshua chased Simek down in the Sharks zone. Joshua immediately challenged him to drop the gloves and Simek obliged. The two tied up with neither man able to get free and delivers any major shots. Eventually Simek is able to push Joshua against the boards.

You can immediately see Joshua's reaction as he tries to wave off the linesman as they close in. Unfortunately, the linesman refused to listen to his request and you can see the disappointment on Joshua's face.

Joshua ended the night with 2 goals and 5 minutes in penalties, while Simek added 7 minutes of penalties. The Canucks managed to sneak out a 6-5 victory in overtime thanks to a goal by Elias Pettersson.

The Canucks now sit 2 points out of a playoff spot after their early season struggles. Maybe their troubling start is behind them and the rumors of their demise were over exaggerated. Only time will tell.
