Zach Kassian left leaking after dropping the gloves against his former team
At the 2022 NHL Draft the Edmonton Oilers made the difficult decision to move on from Zach Kassian due to salary reasons. Over his 7 years with the Edmonton Oilers, Kassian had given the franchise everything he could muster. Sadly though his production fell off and the salary cap doesn't allow for Cup contenders to not be maximizing their cap space.
The Oilers opted to drop three spots in the draft, while also including a 2nd and 3rd round pick to move Kassian's $3,200,000 per season salary. Last night Kassian made his return to Edmonton and was greeted with a round of applause by the Oiler's faithful. Once the puck dropped though, Kassian knew exactly what he needed to do.
Midway through the 3rd period Klim Kostin became engaged with Clayton Keller. After Keller slashed Kostin, Kostin responded by going after Keller. On the play both men received minor penalties, but that wasn't the end of it. When Kostin left the penalty box, Kassian saw his opportunity.
With Kostin against the side boards Kassian made sure to teach the young Kostin an important lesson. Kassian quickly delivered a few cross checks and followed that up by dropping the gloves with the 23-year-old.
After the fight ended Kassian was left leaking. Both men received fighting majors on the play and were sent to the locker room for the night. But even against his old team Kassian proved that it doesn't matter what team he's on, he'll always protect his star players.
