Don't look now, but the Montreal Canadiens just pulled off one of the biggest moves in the offseason. Sniper Patrik Laine and a second-round draft pick are going to the Habs for defenceman Jordan Harris.
This is a huge move for Montreal, as Vice President Jeff Gorton and General Manager Kent Hughes attempt to make the team competitive again after a few years in the basement. If Patrik Laine can return to his previous form of scoring 30 to 40 goals in a season, he would be an excellent addition to their lineup. Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports was one of the first to report on the deal.
Patrik Laine had requested a trade from the Columbus Blue Jackets after getting injured last season, and then deciding to go through the NHL, NHLPA's players assistance program. He managed 18 games in 2023-24, scoring six goals and nine points. Following the trade, Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell told reporters he wants players who want to play in Columbus, and he believes the he got a good, young player in Jordan Harris.
