The St. Louis Blues are a tough team to work out early in 2024/25, as they have the makings of a great team, but with too many veterans and not enough elite level talent, they will likely be battling for a Wild Card spot all season long.
While they became buyers recently with the acquisition of Cam Fowler from the Ducks, GM Doug Armstrong and the Blues are seemingly looking to become sellers as well.
According to Elliotte Friedman, the Blues are looking to sell two-time Stanley Cup Champion Brandon Saad, who has one-year left after this season on the four-year free agency deal he signed with the Blues after a successful stint with the Colorado Avalanche.
Carrying a $4.5 million salary cap hit along with a no-trade clause, it won't be a straight forward deal to get Saad out of St. Louis, but according to Friedman, he's willing to explore all options to make this happen.
With an upcoming trade freeze for a week from December 20th, it's unclear exactly how quickly things are going to work here in St. Louis, but after putting together a deal for Fowler in a hurry, they may be motivated to get this done before that freeze begins.
In 27 games played this season, Saad has tallied 4 goals and 10 points, but at 32-years of age he brings plenty of experience and could be a great depth pickup for a team heading into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, so while we don't know what teams could be involved, expect some interest in Saad moving forward.
