Matvei Michkov could be breaching his contract with the Philadelphia Flyers
Matvei Michkov is unsure if the Philadelphia Flyers are aware he's participating in summer tournament in Russia.
Philadelphia Flyers fans are excited about the arrival of top prospect Matvei Michkov, who will make his NHL debut in October with the team, two years earlier than many expected.
Before Michkov travels to North America to meet up with the Flyers ahead of rookie and training camps, he's set to participate in a summer hockey tournament over in Russia. In a recent interview, Michkov was unsure if the Flyers were even aware of this tournament or his participation, which could raise some eyebrows back in Philadelphia.
Note: the following was translated from Russian.
"I know, probably Philadelphia, I don't know whether they even know about existence or not, but I just came with my friends Uvi to play hockey, after all, it's a holiday." Michkov said.
When asked if the Flyers knew, he added: "To be honest, I don't know, I'm talking about this, I'm leaving now on the twentieth, I'm flying away, as if God forbid things worked out here."
It's unclear whether or not Michkov means that he's leaving on the 20th as in today or in August, next month, but either way, the Flyers are likely praying that he doesn't get injured during this summer tournament in Russia.
Michkov will play a big role for the Flyers this season, although he'll likely be starting lower in the lineup, he'll eventually work his way into top line minutes and time on their first powerplay unit. The Flyers have missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs four seasons in a row now, something they haven't done since the early 1990s and they're hoping that Matvei Michkov will be the that elite player they've been searching for, someone who can lead them back to the post-season and eventually, a championship.
